75th Annual Longacre's Mile at Emerald Downs

On Sunday, August 22, 2010, BlueShoes Media was lucky enough to check out the 75th Annual Longacres Mile at Emerald Downs, just outside of Seattle, WA.

According to its website, Emerald Downs is the home of thoroughbred racing in the Northwest.  It provides racing information, press box, group events, horsemen's information and park activities.  The Longacres Mile is it's biggest and most anticipated race of the season.

Being new to racing, I knew nothing more than I needed a big hat, which was very hard to find but was finally found at Nordstrom.  I got Betting 101 from friends at Richmond Public Relations and it was a thrilling afternoon.

Noosa Beach, a 4-year-old gelding, became the sixth straight local winner of the Grade III race that was worth $203,125. Doris Harwood, who has won more stakes (47) at Emerald Downs than any other trainer, won her first Longacres Mile. (The Seattle Times).

There's about a month left in racing season and if you get a chance, I highly recommend a trip to Emerald Downs for a day of fun.

Noosa Beach holds off Jersey Town to win the 75th Running of the Longacres Mile.
